Phiip Johnson, A Visual Biography, Phillip Johnson and the Glass House are the topics of conversation between the author, Ian Volner, and Hilary Lewis, Chief Curator and Creative Director at the Glass House. In an impressive 400 page illustrated book, with over 500 images and documents, many published for the first time, author Ian Volner traces the 7 decades of Phiip Johnson’s larger-than-life influence, innovation and controversy in the realm of architecture.
Hilary Lewis, trained in the history of architecture, public policy and urban planning, is also a renowned Philip Johnson scholar who closely worked with Johnson on books and publications, including his memoirs.
Almost as good as being there in person, Hilary narrates a tour, taking you through the gates and into the landscape of the Glass House. Visit the Brick House; Studio; Painting Gallery; Pavilion in the Pond; Sculpture Gallery; Ghost House and other architectural structures, 14 in all, that are a ‘diary’ of Johnson’s architectural ideas. Following the tour, Hilary and Ian have a lively and enlightening discussion, including many images and drawings, of Phillip Johnson, his 75 year-long career, and the legacy he leaves behind.
