Full Details

In 1957, Twin Palms became the desert’s first completed Modernist neighborhood.  Designed by William Krisel and built by the Alexander Construction Company, our neighborhood sparked the Desert Modernist movement that continues to this day.

William Krisel's innovations allowed practical and economical tract homes to be stylish and appear custom.  You'll enter five of his homes, including four never before toured.  Three are detached homes - each customized with a different roof line that transcends their tract-home construction, and each respectfully restored to reflect their original design.  Two are condominiums at the historic Ocotillo Lodge, one of which is a classic bungalow. The other is the Alexander Suite - a one-of-a-kind home formed of three adjacent units.  It was originally home to builder George Alexander, and later Gene Autry.

Exclusive to our tour is the newly expanded museum-quality multimedia exhibit that adds context to the work and impact of Mr. Krisel.  It features nine narrative-and-graphics panels, four scale-model homes, neighborhood artifacts and a video kiosk.

For the first time, this year's tour features six docent-hosted neighborhood landmarks, including our new neighborhood entry sign, the renamed William Krisel Way and the recent expansion of the architecturally notable Palm Springs Fire Station #4.  Vintage cars will enliven your route.

By tour’s end you’ll appreciate why all 90 original detached residences sold out immediately, without model homes.  You’ll understand why our neighborhood is a frequent location for television and print advertising, and why its enduring appeal is chronicled in coffee-table books, documentary videos, and countless articles in travel and lifestyle magazines.

A portion of tour proceeds will help the Twin Palms Neighborhood Organization preserve and beautify our neighborhood and fund community projects supporting our city.
