Full Details

Serving as guest curator for two separate exhibitions in 2019-2020, Julius Shulman: Modern San Diego and Julius Shulman: Modern La Jolla, Keith York connected nearly two decades of research documenting over 200 projects across San Diego County photographed between 1934-2007. Beyond the partnership with the San Diego Downtown Library, La Jolla Historical Society and the Getty Research Institute, the connective tissue is based on interviews and time spent with Julius Shulman in his studio in the early 2000s. Keith York launchedmodernsandiego.com two decades ago in an attempt to catalog the widely acclaimed and lesser-known architects and designers that helped shape the metropolitan area and extensive suburbs through the Twentieth Century. Keith is recognized internationally for restoring the Bobertz House, Craig Ellwood’s only project in San Diego, and shining a light on Frank Lloyd Wright apprentice Sim Bruce Richards by restoring his personal residence replete with a collection of art, furnishings and ephemera native to San Diego.
