Film: ALUMINATION - The Story of Airstream, an American Icon
Join Director Eric Bricker as he introduces and screens his eagerly awaited new film for Modernism Week, Alumination.
In 1929 Airstream founder Wally Byam built his first travel trailer in the backyard of his California home. Nearly a century later Airstream continues as the oldest travel trailer company in the United States and an iconic brand. For many, the word "Airstream" signifies more than just the image of an aerodynamic silver bullet gliding down the highway; it also evokes the spirit of innovation, adventure, resilience, and dynamism. Byam didn't just create a tool for travel; he created a blueprint for modern nomadic living.
The film, narrated by Kate Pierson of rock band The B-52s, captures Wally’s vision and the innovative, adventurous spirit that has carried the iconic American brand and its community of passionate road warriors through a century of exploration. From never-before-seen archival footage to interviews with today’s fervent fans, ALUMINATION is a deep dive into American innovation and the joy of travel. The result is a compelling portrait of Wally Byam’s genius, and a celebration of the community that keeps the Airstream dream alive today. (2021) 76 minutes.
ALUMINATION is Eric’s second feature-length film, which premiered September, 2021 at the Freep Film Festival in Detroit. His directorial debut was the documentary Visual Acoustics: The Modernism of Julius Shulman. Producer is Lisa Hughes, founder and principal of Out of the Box Productions, and Co-Producer is Allison Light, founder and principal of Flash Creative.
